The bomber jacket has recently arrived back into the closets of many fashion-minded individuals, and it’s proving to be a major staple for Fall 2016. An unexpected MVP of the street-style scene, the bomber jacket is actually the perfect complement to any outfit as it’s got a touch of tomboy and streetwear edge, while still ridiculously cool. Whether it’s worn oversized with the arms rolled up, paired with a slinky dress or even shredded jeans – the bomber jacket is our go-to piece for the coming season.Get This Look:Regina Suede Bomber Jacket | Dark Grey Skinny Distressed Jeans | Mock Neck Top | Savannah Cutout Ankle Boots
A Brief History
Fashion is cyclical, and we’re always curious to know where styles originate and what served as the source of inspiration.
Once worn exclusively by military pilots, the bomber jacket (also known as the flight jacket) has over the last century (give or take a few years) made the transition from the runway to, well, the runway.Image Courtesy of Wikipedia
United States military pilots wore an early incarnation, similar to the jacket above, from the early 1930s through World War II. This model was usually fashioned out of horsehide (for its durable material and warmth) and established the jacket’s iconic shape.
Since the above jacket was rather bulky, it was revamped at the tail end of the 1940s into the MA-1 flight jacket. The MA-1 flight jacket was sleeker in waterproof nylon, with an orange lining to increase the visibility of downed aviators; it is this model that has inspired 21st-century designers.Image Courtesy of Wikipedia
Bomber jackets transitioned to fashion pieces, circling through the British punk scene in the mid 1970s, before becoming the uniform of many West Coast hip-hop artists circa early 1990s.Image Courtesy of Harper's Bazaar
Today, thanks to designers such as Dries van Noten and Saint Laurent, satin variations of the bomber jacket are now ever popular – especially those that are embroidered (with florals, dragons, you name it). But if those are a bit too embellished, the plain, thinly padded MA1 bomber-style jacket pairs well with anything and still exudes the effortlessly cool vibe, with its nod to utilitarian minimalism.
How to Style a Bomber Jacket
For an easy “off-duty model” look that will keep you styling all season long, pair a bomber jacket with skinny jeans, a loose tee, and a killer pair of boots.Image Courtesy of Sincerely JulesGet This Look:Image Courtesy of June Sixty Five

Models are known for their legendary street style; after all, it comes with the territory. Day in and day out, they are surrounded by the latest trends – even those that have yet to reach the style blogs. They meet at showrooms, at casting agencies, and all over town for booking calls. They are some of the most innately stylish people – because their livelihoods require them to eat, style, and breathe fashion. So it comes as no surprise that the model-off-duty look is highly coveted and an often-imitated style category. While skinny jeans, motorcycle boots, and a leather jacket seem to be the standard uniform – some models like to spice it up. Fashion Girl Rule #1: There is nothing more effortlessly chic than a little black dress. However, when you mix in a striped print, that little LBD jumps to the next level and can easily be a key piece in every wardrobe.
Take Nichole Ciotti of Vanilla Extract, for example, who is seen casually strolling through the city of San Francisco, coffee in hand. Nichole’s day-to-day, “Café Chic” look is finished off by a pair of chunky black boots and a black satchel. The striped dress acts as a staple – something you can quickly top off with a leather jacket as you transition to evening – which is exactly what she did. For the girl on the go that is constantly running around the city with little time to change, there is no better shape-shifter than the little black striped dress.
Looking for the perfect striped dress to be a key player in your wardrobe? Nichole’s effortlessly chic outfit is available here.

As of yesterday, spring has officially made its arrival and the blooming flowers and emerging sunny skies have us way too excited for what's to come. While we're still transitioning our wardrobes from knits to florals, LA style blogger, Brittany of Thrifts and Threads has given us some insight on an effortless and trendy ensemble to spring into the new season.
Brittany decided to ditch the blue jeans and opt for a polished pair of white denim for a fresh daytime feel and goes on to say, "I’m loving this transitional spring weather lately and a new pair of white jeans feels very fresh." Styling her white jeans with an equally neutral piece, our Margaux Knit Sweater, Brittany decided to implement a bold pop of detail to her look by tapping into the bandana trend and wearing our red bandana tied around her neck. Completing her look with our Ophelie Suede Lace-Up Heels, we're totally obsessed with her trans-seasonal styling and are definitely taking notes.
